Fodor’s Travel picked Burlington as one of five U.S. cities to visit that feel like prominent travel destinations elsewhere in the world.
The article, published this month, gives travelers who would normally be making plans to traverse the world, options here in the U.S. while international travel is not recommended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fodor’s suggests five U.S. cities or parks they consider counterparts to locations abroad. For a Parisian feel — New Orleans; a Rio vibe try Miami; London found its mate in Philadelphia; the Amazon — Red Wood National Park.
And Copenhagen found its twin in Burlington.
A picture comparison in the article between the Church Street Marketplace and the Denmark capital’s Strøget pedestrian shopping street is striking.
Fodor’s said the two are similar based on their “cozy cobblestone streets,” cycling culture, picturesque winters and “having some of the happiest residents on Earth.”
The article points out Burlington’s interests as being a beautiful and welcoming college town with breweries, world renowned cheese, Ben & Jerry’s, and waterfront biking.
Fodor’s concludes, “with welcoming residents and always delicious ice cream, you can’t go wrong no matter the season.”
What do you think, Burlingtonians? Is the Queen City like Copenhagen?
Of course travelers should abide by the state pandemic guidance, including quarantining and possibly taking a COVID test, for interstate travel.
